The Smither Park Memory Wall - Section 1

"Tree of Life"

c. 2012

Designed & Constructed by: Debbie Wetmore

ABOUT THE DESIGN

Houston artist Debbie Wetmore has been creating art most of her life. For the past 20 years or more she has focused on metalsmithing, enameling, and cloisonne. She has works on display at institutions such as the National Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institute, but this was her first three-dimensional mosaic work.

The inspiration for her panel came from one of her late husband’s pastimes. Debbie has been quoted saying “He loved birds…he watched birds…he listened to birds. In mythology birds connect the spirit to the earth.”
